The Hazard of Visiting OPH

(Other People's Houses)is that your own house looks tatty and thrown together.

I adore my house, but it could use some spiffing up, case in point:

The Living Room

The furniture and rug are a bit dingy (we'll say "patinaed" but okay.) A bright Dash and Albert would be fun, but hard to pick and not necessary. Curtains an improvement though they are too short and not full enough and probably not hung where they should be. Not messing with that.

I would like:

some fresh, pretty cushions in yummy fabric
a throw that isn't red-- too much red around here
A high thing
a more delicate, light framed, interesting mirror or art above sofa
ditto fireplace
fresh paint

What kind of high thing?
Possibly a painted high thing? Introducing the problem of what color?
Glass door high thing for my decorating and art books? Such as

Ikea no longer has the Hemnes mirror in pine, sniff. So maybe a nice old window or antique wood frame with mirror in it.

So my imaginary shopping list:

5 or 6 great cushions
tall thing
nice mirror
